Use of Sport's Premium Funding 2016-17

This year we look forward to welcoming Mrs Burroughs, a specialist PE teacher, who will be joining us every other half term on Wednesdays starting after October half term. She will be working with every year group and her aim is to develop PE across the whole school during PE lessons and after school. Mrs Burroughs plans to facilitate inter school competition with local schools and organise festivals to celebrate the children's prowess at a chosen sport each term. We are currently looking to secure the use of the Duchess High school facilities to host our Hockey Festival at the end of this term, so look out for details of this coming soon.  The other sports chosen as the focus for this year are  Rugby and Cricket and these will be taught in the Spring and Summer terms respectively.  Mrs Burroughs will look to  coordinate school's involvement in additional external sporting activities as opportunities arise across the year.

Mrs Burroughs will also be working with ‘mini leaders’ at lunchtimes to develop playtime games and activities amongst all the children. As staff we will also be able to build our teaching expertise across a number of sports through observation of excellent practice and by receiving quality CPD which Mrs Burroughs will lead each term.

We continue to value the impact of outdoor learning and adventurous activities on both the educational and personal and social outcomes for pupils in our school.  Every Friday, all the children have the opportunity to work in mixed aged groups to develop their Forest Skills. We are lucky to have very talented staff who are orchestrating a skills journey for our children, the teaching of which we will be able to support and develop further this year using our recently purchased specialist resources.

Other Sporting Activities

We continue to take the whole school swimming every Thursday and during each half term that Mrs Burroughs is not in school the staff deliver Dance and Gymnastics in PE lessons.

Currently we also run weekly after school clubs for Football (Wednesdays) and Judo (Tuesdays)
